The medium hardness Nakayama sharpening stone is quite hard and easy to work with. You will not need a nagura or a diamond plate, as the stone will release enough of its own suspension. A great option for those who don't like "dance with drums" - just take it and grind it. Its size makes it perfect for razor work, but it's also great for sharpening larger tools.

not very good looking, but a fine stone that works well, which is what we expect from the Nakayama mine. The stone is glued on a wooden stand.

Nakayama (中山)

This Eastern mine is famous for its awasedo finishing stones, and is perhaps the most sought after among sharpening professionals and hobbyists. Compared to stones of similar hardness and fineness from other mines, Nakayama stones are known for a more pleasant sharpening sensation and high work speed. Multilayer stone (Hondomae, Shikitomae) and Kiita are especially valued.
