The Maruo mine is located in the Tanba Mountains. Located in the northwest of Kameoka City, the natural stone mountain called Nishimono is relatively new, and its mining began in the Meiji (End Date: July 30, 1912 Start Date: January 25, 1868) era. There were approximately 500 main and combined stone entrances, both large and small, within 3 km of the site. One of these is Mount Maruo, where the Tatar family is currently mining.

Third generation Shoji and fourth generation Yozo started mining in 1970. The mine contains the Suita and Tomae layers formed by Honguchi, and high-quality cut-finish stones are still mined today. Fully underground mining is carried out, which is very rare these days.
