History and manufacturer's legacy
Ontario Knife Company traces its roots back to the 1920s and Old Hickory The line has become one of the longest-running traditional kitchen knives in the USA. It's a knife from an era when function came before design and materials were unadulteratedly natural. Over the years, OKC has expanded the range and developed RAT a line of folding knives that has become a legend among bushcraft, EDC and tactical enthusiasts.
This copy is an opportunity to have a piece of that history before the RAT era.
Steel maturity and cutting character
1095 steel acquires microstructural stability and a quiet, pleasant sharpening over time. The knife has been professionally refurbished - Natural Arkansas stones: washita → Soft → Hard → Black → Translucent, so the blade has an aggressive but clean cut suitable for the kitchen.
Cutting feels „alive“, fast and clean.
This is one of the reasons why the old 1095 still has its audience even in the era of powder steels.
Recommendations for maintenance
- Store dry, wipe clean after use
- A light layer of oil is recommended for storage
- Patina - natural and beneficial, protects against oxidation
- Natural stones ideal for sharpening: Arkansas / Aizu / Nakayama
