A very rare Suita, which I have seen only a few times in the trade. This stone is medium hard and fine, with a medium sharpening response and speed. It will not form a slurry, so we recommend the use of a nagura to speed up the polishing of the knives. On the contrary, black metal waste will quickly accumulate when you work the blade on stone. With proper patience and technique, stones will leave a shiny, refined kasumi on both soft laminate and core-hard steel.
The blade is quite non-aggressive, but it is perfect for kitchen knives. This stone also works well with carpentry tools, e.g. for chisels, planes and is an excellent pre-finishing razor prep.
Atago Shiro Suita whetstone will do all the work perfectly. The stone is gray in color with pink and yellowish spots in namaz. No toxic lines.
Atagoyama
This mine produced stones from Chu-ishi naori, which are generally large and clean. Mount Atago is often considered the center of Kyoto's sharpening stone mining area.
