This perfectly shaped one perfectly captures all of Nakayama's strengths - petite but quite fast and smooth. He does not need a tome back or a diamond plate to start working. Nakayama Asagi Nashiji quickly removes the metal and leaves a very refined shine. Because of their large size, long knives are very easy to sharpen, just like any other tool.

This Nakayama sharpening stone is gray in color with abundant nashiji dots. The sides and bottom are painted with paint, thus protecting against excessive water ingress. which could increase the probability of decomposition when storing the stone at sub-zero temperatures.

The Maruka ㋕正本山 stamp is missing or not visible, but the stone is definitely worth it. Kato-san, the last owner of the Nakayama mine, used this mark only on the highest quality Japanese sharpening stones.

Nakayama (中山)

This Eastern mine is famous for its finishing stones awasedo and ranks first among the most sought after among sharpening professionals and hobbyists. Compared to stones of similar hardness and fineness from other mines, Nakayama stones are known for a more pleasant sharpening sensation and high work speed. Multilayer stone (Hondomae, Shikitomae) and Kiita are especially valued.
