Japanese natural sharpening finishing stone Nakayama Tomae Awasedo. It is a medium hardness stone with excellent sharpening speed. We recommend it for finishing knives or prefinishing razors. Also good for finishing razors as long as you don't use too much force.
This is a regular shaped huge stone that does the job very well!
This grey stone has a pattern of gradations of pink and greenish shades, dotted with small nashiji dots. No lines or inclusions are visible. A deeper look at the side shows that the stone may turn black in the future, with yellow namazu spots. Therefore, with this stone you are in for an interesting and unpredictable journey into the world of Japanese natural sharpening stones 🙂
Seriously, even if the colour changes, the stone should work very similarly. This can be seen in the homogeneous structure forming the sides.
Nakayama (中山)
This Eastern mine is famous for its awasedo sharpening finishing stones and is probably the first among the most sought after among sharpening professionals and hobbyists. Compared to stones of similar hardness and fineness from other mines, Nakayama stones are known for a more pleasant sharpening response and high work speed. Multi-layer stone (Hondomae, Shikitomae) and Kiita are especially valued.
