Ohira Renge Suita

Ohira Renge Suita high grade whetstones are rare. The stone is fast, gives good response and exceptional results. High-quality Ohira is increasingly rare, and this stone is a perfect example of why the mine has achieved its good reputation. This stone is quite fine for the Ohira suite. A pure white base with a dense, uniform renge pattern. One of the corners is slightly chipped and has safety lines. This is the only thing that prevents this stone from becoming a museum specimen with a truly astronomical price.

Ohira (大平, Oohira, Ohirayama)
A western mine famous for Uchigumori and the quality of its Suita. Although the mine is still occasionally worked, exportable uchigumori and Ohira suita are increasingly difficult to find. Because of the superior quality of Ohira suita and uchigumori, it is not uncommon for stones from other mines to be stamped or sold as Ohira.
