This Shapton Pro Stone 30,000 Grit, Murasaki is a very special sharpening stone with a grit size of 30,000. It is so fine it almost feels soft. As with all Shapton Pro stones, this 30,000 stone allows you to sharpen very quickly and evenly. The sharpening stone is truly designed for the very last stage of the sharpening process, so that even the last millimeter of the edge is absolutely sharp. This is ideal for sharpening straight razors, for example. Before moving on to this stone, you'll want to use a 12,000 stone if you're grinding harder steel. An 8,000 stone is more suitable for softer steel. After that, if you use this 30,000 stone correctly, the edge will be sharper than ever.
Especially with this particularly fine 30,000 stone, it is very important to work as cleanly as possible. Especially if you have just sharpened on a larger stone before. Clean the knife/tool thoroughly before using the stone. The same goes for the hands and under the nails. This reduces the chance of the fine surface of the stone being reduced.
In Japan, these colorful Shapton Pro sharpening stones are also known as Shapton Ha-No-Kuromaku. These are the thickest Shapton whetstones at 15mm. As befits a Shapton, each stone is beautifully uniform in texture, with evenly distributed ceramic sharpening particles. This ensures a really even sharpening result. Because the stones are relatively hard, they remove steel quickly and do not wear out for a long time.
