Narutak-toi are fine stones obtained from the Narutaki, Umegahata and Takao areas.

The Japanese natural stone NARUTAKI AWASEDO Maruichi for Kamisori, specially selected for finishing razor sharpening, works quickly and releases a sufficient amount of its suspension. There is no need for a softer stone (mikawa or tomo nagura) or a worn diamond plate to form a suspension.

On the Aogami 2 steel blade, the Hagane has a mirror finish, while the softer Jigae has a bright matte silver finish.

Narutaki whetstones have been among the finest quarried in Kyoto for nearly 900 years. During the samurai era, it was very important as a military matter because it was a weapon sharpener, so for hundreds of years the mountains were guarded by the Japanese emperor, shoguns or government. Only the Honmu family operated the mine for a long time. Narutaki-to is used for sharpening and polishing Japanese swords, but Kanna (Japanese chisel), obliamsl, Kamisori, etc. also allowed the use of smaller or lower quality stones.

A natural grinding stone has a larger working scale than an artificial one, so we don't know the exact result until we finish sharpening. The abrasive of artificial whetstones does not break down to smaller sizes, and the natural particles can be broken down to smaller sizes, which are mixed with the scrap of ground steel to give a suitable Jigane and Hagane finish.
