The Hard Arkansas whetstone is approximately 10,000 grit. It will allow you to get a very sharp blade.
It is best to use mineral oil, baby oil, special sharpening oil or olive oil when working with all Arkansas stones. Apply a few drops to the surface of the stone to prevent clogging, reduce friction during sharpening and keep the stone clean. Water can also be used, but grease gives a slightly better result. Using water will also make cleaning the stone a bit more difficult. Especially if you have used a stone with oil before.
These natural stones are very hard and do not need to be sanded as often as most synthetic stones.
Whale Oil stone approximately 3000 grit. Work with grease.
