This Nakayama Kiita is not very hard so it is easy to work with. The stone is good enough to finish a razor, but easy enough to use that it's also good for knives. There is no need for a nagura or diamond plate as the stone will release its own suspension and the scraps of the polished metal will soon be visible. Its size makes it perfect for razor work, but it's also great for sharpening larger tools. If your knife is well prepared, it will also give a very refined kasumi polish.
This kiita is not as bright yellow as some, but has good color with rare darker spots. There are a few dots of nashiji patterns. Marks of chiselling are visible on the lower surface.
Nakayama (中山)
This Eastern mine is famous for its awasedo finishing stones. Multi-layered stone with another is especially appreciated by professionals and amateurs. Compared to stones of similar hardness and fineness from other mines, Nakayama stones are known for a more pleasant sharpening feel and work speed.
