Despite being quite tough, this Kiita is easy to work with. The stone is good enough to finish a razor, but easy enough to use that it's also good for knives. There is no need for a nagura or diamond plate as the stone will release its own suspension and the scraps of the polished metal will soon be visible. Its size makes it perfect for razor work, but it will also be good for sharpening larger tools.
Shomotoyama was named after Nakayama and Okudo stones. I cannot say which mine it is in this case.
