Wakasa Tamurayama is an extremely rare and highly prized Japanese natural finishing stone, originating from the historic Tamurayama region in Fukui Prefecture, near the famous Wakasa Bay. This stone has long been used to sharpen traditional Japanese kamisori and luxury razors, and its grinding quality and purity are compared to the legendary Maruka Kyoto stones.

Why choose Wakasa Tamurayama?
Quality and speed of work – this stone is distinguished by its extremely even, gentle, yet relatively fast grinding, which effectively removes micron-sized irregularities in the metal without leaving any scratches.
Response and sensation – the working feeling is very close to the classic Maruka stones: soft, delicate, with a pleasant feedback that allows for ideal control of pressure and sharpening result. No need for a rasp, as the stone releases its own suspension
Highly rated in Japan – Wakasa Tamurayama is one of the few natural stones to be rated with the highest scores by Japan Hairdressers and Beauty Professionals Association, recommended for professional finishing of razors and extremely sharp tools.

Recommended use:

  • For razors (camissori, straight razors)
  • For the final finishing of knives on natural stone
  • For tools that require extremely clean blades

Characteristics:

  • Grit: high (equivalent to ~12,000–15,000 on the synthetic scale)
  • Hardness: medium - high
  • Surface structure: extremely smooth, without inclusions
  • Grinding speed: quite fast for a finishing stone of this level

Remark: Each Wakasa Tamurayama stone is hand-tested to ensure quality and integrity, making it not just a tool, but also an investment with lasting value for metalworking and shaving masters.
